Luci Terms of Service
Last updated: November 2, 2026
These Terms are an agreement between you and Softivate Inc., 40 Hickling Lane, Ajax, Ontario L1T 0P9, Canada ("Luci", "we", "us"), the operator of the Luci app and lucidating.app (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms, our Community Guidelines and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. You must be 18 or older
The Service is for adults only. You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live, if higher) to create an account. Every member must pass an identity and age check before they can be seen by or contact anyone (see section 3). We close any account we believe belongs to someone under 18 and may report suspected exploitation of minors to the authorities, including the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (Cybertip.ca) and NCMEC.
2. Your account
- One person, one account. You may not create an account for someone else, share your account, or create a new account after we have suspended or banned you.
- You may use a pseudonym, but the information you give us for the identity check must be true and your own.
- You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your device and sign-in (Sign in with Apple, Google, or other methods we offer) secure.
- You may not be a person convicted of a sexual or violent offence, or subject to a court order that prohibits contact with others through services like ours.
3. Identity and age verification (Didit)
To keep the Service adults-only and real, we require an identity document check and a liveness (selfie) check through our provider Didit. Didit processes your document and face images under its own privacy terms and tells us whether you passed, including whether you are 18+. We do not receive or keep a copy of your ID document. We keep the result, the Didit session reference, and salted one-way fingerprints of document details so that banned members cannot sign up again. See our Privacy Policy for details. A pass does not mean we vouch for anyone: always use your own judgment when meeting people.
4. Zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users
There is no tolerance on Luci for objectionable content or abusive users. You must follow our Community Guidelines. In particular you must not post, send or share content that:
- involves, sexualises or appears to involve anyone under 18 (always reported to authorities);
- threatens, harasses, bullies, stalks, doxes or intimidates anyone;
- is hateful toward people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity, disability or serious illness;
- is sexually explicit in public areas (profile, photos, headline, notes to people you haven't matched with), or is sent without the other person's consent;
- shares someone's intimate images or private information without consent, or records or screenshots others to expose them;
- is spam, a scam, solicitation, sex work advertising, or promotion of other services;
- impersonates someone, or is illegal.
We filter some content automatically, review every report, and may remove content and warn, suspend or permanently ban accounts — with or without notice — for breaking these Terms or the Guidelines.
5. Blocking and reporting
You can block anyone at any time and report a profile, a chat, a specific message or a specific photo from inside the app. Reports are confidential: the person you report is never told who reported them. Our safety team reviews every report and acts on it within 24 hours, including removing offending content and removing the user who posted it where warranted. You can also write to hello@lucidating.app.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of the photos, text, voice notes and other content you post. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, process, display and transmit that content only as needed to run, secure and improve the Service (for example, to show your profile to others, deliver your messages and review reports). This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content that is part of an open report or that we must keep by law. You confirm you have the right to post your content and that it follows these Terms.
7. Privacy features have limits
Luci tries to protect your privacy (for example, blocking screenshots in the app, blurring photos, disappearing messages and masked calls), but no technology can stop someone from photographing their screen with another device. Share only what you are comfortable sharing.
8. Meeting people safely
We do not run criminal background checks and do not guarantee anyone's identity, intentions or conduct. You are solely responsible for your interactions with other members. Meet in public, tell a friend, and use the in-app safety tools. If you are in danger, call 911 or your local emergency number.
9. Places and maps (Google)
Some features use Google Maps Platform (Google Places) to search places and name neighbourhoods. By using those features you agree to the Google Maps / Google Earth Additional Terms of Service and acknowledge the Google Privacy Policy. Place information is provided by Google "as is" and may be inaccurate.
10. Paid features
Some features require a paid subscription bought through the Apple App Store (or Google Play, where offered). Prices, the length of each subscription period and any free trial are shown in the app before you buy. Payment is charged to your store account when you confirm the purchase, or when a free trial ends. Subscriptions renew automatically at the same price and length unless you turn off auto-renew in your store account settings at least 24 hours before the end of the current period (or free trial). You can manage or cancel a subscription in those settings at any time; cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep access until the end of the period you paid for. Any unused part of a free trial ends when you buy a subscription. Payments, renewals and refunds are handled by the store under its terms; deleting your Luci account does not cancel a store subscription.
11. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete everything. This removes your profile, photos, matches and messages from the Service as described in the Privacy Policy. If you have an open report or a suspension, we keep a minimal record so the outcome can be enforced.
12. Acceptable use of the Service
Do not scrape, reverse-engineer, interfere with, or overload the Service; do not use bots or automation; do not try to get around blocks, bans, the identity check or our safety features; and do not use the Service for any commercial purpose without our written permission.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or end your access at any time if you break these Terms or if we need to protect members, the Service or the public.
14. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for the conduct of any member on or off the Service, and our total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the past 12 months or CAD $100. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.
15. Apple App Store
If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store: these Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support, and is not responsible for any product, intellectual-property or other claims about the app. If the app fails to meet any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple for a refund of the purchase price (if any); Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you are not in a country under a U.S. Government embargo or on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Subject to any consumer protection law that gives you the right to bring a claim where you live, disputes will be heard by the courts of Ontario. Nothing in this section takes away rights you have under the consumer protection laws of your province or country.
17. Changes
We may update these Terms. If a change is material we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms.
